He was sincere, polite and totally believable; looking back now, through the eyes of experience, should have looked further but I was young and he appeared to be a professional. In the competitive business of wedding photography, it is important to look below the surface; look through multiple wedding photo albums of each prospective photographer, contact references from previous bridal couples and inquire as to their professional history with the Better Business Bureau.

When the wedding photography was delivered to my husband and I, we realized that he missed taking any photos of my Mother (the Mother of the Bride), my “Man of Honor” (my brother/best friend) and my Matron of Honor (my sister-in-law); 2/3 of the wedding party was not visible in the still photos of the traditional walk down the aisle. It is not that hard to make your own wedding veil. To make this wedding craft, you will require a length of bridal illusion in the desired length. You will also require a comb to attach it to your hair and a hat or headpiece to cover the comb. Sew large running stitches about an inch from the end of the illusion and gather it tightly. Next sew the veil to the comb. Top with a headpiece or hat. As an alternative, you could decorate a wide-brimmed straw hat with silk flowers, pearls or ribbons.

The bouquets and floral arrangements can also be personally crafted. For a simple wedding that will take place outdoors, why not think about wild flowers. They have a charm all their own. Flowers can be arranged in large vases, with a bow elegantly tied around it.

Favors for the guests are a particularly appropriate wedding craft. They really do say ‘I care’ that you are at my wedding. Refrigerator magnets are a simple and well-received favor. An especially nice idea is to make a magnetic picture frame and add a photo of the happy couple. Decorate the front of the frame with foil heart stickers and a monogram of the couple’s last name. Choose colors that complement the colors you have chosen as your wedding theme.

Bows for the ends of the pews or rows are also relatively simple to make. Wide velvet ribbons are a good choice for fall and winter weddings, whilst satin is best suited for spring and summer weddings. Loop some flat lace in with the ribbons. In the center of the completed bow, attach some silk flowers and pearl sprays with a hot glue gun.

Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at decorating your own wedding cake. Check the craft section of the department store for pans and gadgets of all types to help you create a cake to remember. Do remember, that it takes a very steady hand. Be sure to practice before starting on the actual cake.

Preparing for a wedding can be very expensive, but with wedding crafts, you can take some of the sting out. Plan early, however, as it will take a little while to create favors for everyone and all the other little details you will want to take care of.

Another way to reduce costs is to invite a friend or family member to act as the master of ceremonies at the wedding reception rather than booking a professional which is very expensive.
